80’s classic arcade game the “COSMIC CAVERN 3671” passed through the Steam Greenlight! Release on July 8!

Do you remember or do you even know what is COSMIC CAVERN 3671? The full title is “Underworld survival sandbox game: COSMIC CAVERN 3671” which was a classic and hardcore arcade game in Japan in 1980.

The remake version of the game has be submitted on June 13 on the Steam Greenlight and we have a good news for the fans! The game did it, it has been passed and it’s going to re-release on PC on July 8, 2016 on the Steam and the PLAYISM Japan in English and Japanese. It will be a relative cheap game 498 Yen 4.90 USD but don’t forget you will get a dot style arcade remake game.

Here is the little behind story of the game from the official Steam Greenlight page:

Takaya Arita, currently a professor at Nagoya University, published Space Cavern in the July 1980 issue of the Japanese computer magazine I/O. The article that introduced it began by discussing the numerous clone games already available at the time:

Like fools, we rely on games offered for our favorite platforms that are published in magazines, but lately, they seem to have all become so simple, demanding too little of the player’s intelligence and creativity. Now a game has been created that makes us stand up and cry, “Let’s do this!!”

As this quote illustrates, Space Cavern was extremely addictive because it allowed players to express their imaginations, was densely packed with pure fun, and was highly innovative. It gained incredible popularity and was ported to a wide range of 8-bit computers of that era.

In addition to the original version, this masterpiece compiles two arranged versions that modify frustrating parts of the original with modern gameplay, in addition to enhanced features and two-player co-op. That’s three games in one!

What’s more, these arranged versions feature graphics supervised by Hiroshi “Mr. Dotman” Ono, who drew the artwork for many early Namco games, including Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Xevious. The soundtrack was created by the acclaimed game music composer Yuzo Koshiro, whose work includes such classics as Streets of Rage, The Revenge of Shinobi, and Shenmue. Together they form the complete package of Space Cavern 3671, “The Greatest Underground Operation in the Galaxy”!
